Ingredients

Ingredients that you need to make lemongrass iced tea are 4 cups of water and 2 cups of lemongrass stalks. Additionally, you need a 1-inch slice of ginger and ¼ cup of sugar. Other optional ingredients are milk, honey, lime, green tea, or cream.

Step 1: Chop Lemongrass Stalks

First, you need to chop the lemongrass stalks with the flat side of your knife. Cutting with the flat side of the knife will release the fragrant oil that is inside the stalks. Then, chop the lemongrass roughly. You can cut it into ½-1 inch long pieces.

If you have grown lemongrass at home, you can even use its leaves to prepare your lemongrass tea. Most grocery stores sell lemongrass that is already cut. If you are doing it at home, do it carefully on the cutting board.

Step 2: Bring the Water to Boil

Take a deep pan and add 4 cups of water to it. Avoid using a small pan, otherwise, once the water heats up, it will boil over. Put the pan on the stove and turn on the flame. Bring the water to boil on a medium to high flame. You need to be careful because the water is hot.

Step 3: Add Lemongrass and Ginger

Once the water starts boiling, it’s time to add a ginger slice and chopped lemongrass. Add both the ingredients carefully into the boiling water. You can use a spoon with a long handle to stir it. Check the lemongrass with a spoon and once it is completely submerged, let it boil for 5 more minutes.

Ginger will give an extra flavor with health benefits. And tea made with lemongrass and ginger will be comforting, a little spicy, and tangy. It helps with a headache, cold, and sore throat.

Step 4: Strain the Mixture

Once the tea is boiled enough, it’s time to strain it. Take a fine mesh strainer and another container to strain the tea. Separate the ginger slice and lemongrass. People also use the tea after removing the lemongrass with a spoon. But if you accidentally end up drinking fiber from lemongrass, it gives unpleasant feelings. So, it is better to strain it before drinking.

Step 5: Chill the Tea to Make Iced Tea

You can drink the tea right after pouring it into the cup. But if you like iced tea, place the container of lemongrass tea into your refrigerator for an hour. A chilled herbal tea or lemongrass iced tea is perfect for hot days of summer.

If you want sweetened iced tea, you can stir in about ¼ cup of sugar in the tea before placing it in the refrigerator.

Step 6: Serve Over Ice

For the best results, we recommend you serve lemongrass ginger iced tea over ice.

Adding Other Flavors
